About the volunteering opportunity
For many years, our school has had a learning and reading mentor project. The mentors help with understanding the school material in one or more subjects - of course in consultation with parents and teachers. The students come voluntarily and the mentors also help voluntarily and free of charge.
Beyond school life, parents' evenings, joint celebrations and excursions take place, which strengthen the relationship between learning mentor and pupil.
Your Tasks
You support a student in understanding the school material especially in math/German/English.
It is a 1 to 1 setting and usually you meet once a week for about an hour in the rooms of the school. Day and time determine learning mentor and student themselves, it is possible after the end of classes (12:15 or usually 13 clock) until 16 clock (last meeting place, because then the school is locked).
What's needed
You should enjoy working with children and teenagers, have basics in the subjects math / German / English (middle school level) and patience.
Time required
Caritas Kreisstelle Ingolstadt - Jugendsozialarbeit an der Sir-William-Herschel Mittelschule
Youth social work at the Sir-William-Herschel Middle School (JaS) advises students and their parents/guardians on personal, school and family problems. JaS works with all parties involved to find feasible solution strategies. The youth social workers refer to other institutions and specialized services of child and youth welfare and cooperate with them.
