Design a sun terrace for senior citizens with dementia

In our diaconal apartment on the first floor of an apartment building in Heilbonn-Sontheim, we look after up to nine senior citizens - many of whom live with dementia - every afternoon from Monday to Friday. For three hours at a time, we take them out of their apartments into our communal rooms, spend time with coffee and cake and organize activating activities such as games, conversations and short bursts of exercise.

The apartment has a terrace, which could be a valuable meeting place, especially in summer. However, the outdoor area is currently not suitable for senior citizens and is not always safe to use. Our aim is to design this area so that our guests can spend beautiful summer days outside, experience nature and enjoy community - safely and without the risk of tripping.

The following work is planned as a team to make our terrace a safe place to relax:

Knowledge of gardening and paving is an advantage, but not a must. Team spirit, motivation and the joy of creating something lasting together are important.
